Welcome to the
Youth for Wildlife Conservation Delegation
at CITES CoP18
Across the world human activity is causing more threats to wildlife than ever before. The Illegal Wildlife Trade is an urgent global issue. These crimes are pushing species closer to extinction, devastating environments and fuelling corruption, all of which jeopardize communities around the world.
The good news is, there are solutions. Conservation works. But without dedicated, properly trained and supported individuals the world’s wildlife do not stand a chance. More than ever, we need new voices. We need dedicated, passionate conservationists to come together to form these solutions, to be empowered to act!
This is why Y4WC was formed!
We are proud to introduce, the 20 inspirational young leaders from across the world (see their profiles below) who will form the in person and digital Y4WC delegation. Coming together with Youth for Wildlife Conservation, these early-career changemakers will collectively explore and learn about wildlife trade and conservation solutions. They will develop their skills to help end wildlife trafficking and build a better, more sustainable world for people and wildlife.
They will join government and NGO delegates in the biggest wildlife conference in the world; the 18th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Here they will witness the negotiations as they happen, understand greater how these decisions impact their work on the ground and have endless opportunities to network with peers and experts in their field.
By bridging the gap between existing and future policymakers as well as grassroots conservationists, Y4WC is supporting and building a network that is committed to effective policy and management of wildlife that translates to practical, grassroot conservation efforts on the ground.
Meet the delegates
Due to the terror incidents in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, which caused the CITES CoP18 to move date and location, the Y4WC forum had to be adapted.
But wait there is more…
You are invited.
If you are attending the CITES CoP, we invite you to meet our delegates and the team at our Breakfast Side Event!
08:00 - 09:00 am
Free coffee and breakfast will be served.
** Yes you read that right. It is a breakfast side event, after all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Can’t make it to Geneva?
If unfortunately, you cannot make it to Geneva, do not worry, you are still invited. Y4WC is a global network and for this event we are placing an emphasis on our wider engagement. We will be reaching our network and engaging them in discussions through our digital platforms.
Make sure you follow along and let your voice be heard!
